OVERVIEW

Enjoy a magical place, the rainbow mountain is one of the places where you wonder how big and magical this place is and what to describe, travel through wild landscapes, desert, mountain peaks, snowy peaks, observe various animals in the area, like the alpacas. Llamas that still live loose in nature, during the trip we will cross a green valley accompanied by the impressive view of the Ausangate in the distance.

You will live unique experiences and you will have direct contact with the local people of the community, you will observe how they live in the mountains, how is their agriculture, their livestock and above all you will talk with them to know more about them and they are very kind indeed.

DETAILED ITINERARY

We will pick you up from your hotel at 4:30AM to start our trip. It is 3-hour and a half ride to Chillca (3700 m.a.s.l.) which is the starting point of the hike to the Rainbow Mountain. During the trip, we will drive through traditional small towns and have incredible views of the Cordillera de Los Andes. At arrival we will have a delicious breakfast prepared by our cook. After breakfast we begin the hike up, it is a 4-hour hike to get to the top of the famous Rainbow Mountain. Along the way we will observe glacier peaks, rocky hills, red mountains, llamas and alpacas grazing in the valley. This is the only place in Cusco where you can see vicuñas, vicuñas come from the same family as alpacas, but they are smaller they are smaller and their wool is the finest in the world.

Once at the top of the Rainbow Mountain, you will have plenty of time to contemplate the majesty of the surrounding mountains, the valleys and the Ausangate located just in front of you. Ausangate is the highest mountain of Cusco region and is part of the Cordillera Vilcanota. While observing the beautiful landscapes our staff will bring you some hot drinks and provide information of the composition of these mountains which give them those characteristic colors.

After taking amazing photos we will descend for two hours approximately until we reach the campsite to have lunch. After lunch we will visit some local houses where we will be able to see the way of life of the people from the area, they still practice ancient traditions from the Incas time such as “Ayni” (mutual work).

After this unique experience of interacting with native people, we continue to the village of Chillca where our private van will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. Drop off at your hotel is included.

PACKING LIST

Amarutrek Expeditions wants you to enjoy your time while on our treks so we have compiled a suggested list of what you should pack or take for treks.

FUNDAMENTALS:

  • Passport (valid, up to date and if renewed- bring both old and new one)
  • Valid ISIC student card (if you booked as a student)
  • Good daypack (the smaller, the better like camelbaks enough for about 2-3L)
  • Sturdy hiking boots (lightweight with good soles like KEEN,MERELL, ETC.)

SUGGESTED ITEMS FOR DAYPACK:

Daypacks can be any size for hiking, but we always recommend the smaller, the better.

  • Water: we supply clean water at each meal. You are responsible for your first morning of water only as we won’t have time to filter water until your first lunch.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE TO CUSCO!

A representative of Amarutrek Expeditions will meet you at the Cusco airport and transfer you to your hotel, be sure to give us all the necessary information 15 days before your walk or tour. Once arrived in the city of Cusco our representative will be waiting for you with a cherry panel of Amarutrek Expeditions at the reception sites.

BRIEFING BEFORE THE TOUR

We will provide all the necessary information the night before the walk in our office, our professional guide will give you all the details of the tour, to have a better experience in the trekking.

WHERE I KEEP MY BAGGAGE

We offer two options, to be able to secure and store your luggage, you can do it in our office or at your hotel, neglect everything is safe and both are free.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE BALANCE TO PAY?

We would appreciate if you pay in cash at our office (US dollars or Peruvian soles) here in Cusco. We have many ATMs in the historic center to withdraw money. You can also pay with PAYPAL online, but you will have to pay a service charge of 5.5{09a695a951a181e383114da9027e5bc1c4678300c93575b8c1080a0d27810d37}, charged by PAYPAL. To pay your balance through PAYPAL, you must log in to your PAYPAL account using our email address of amarutrekexpeditions@gmail.com.

CAN I CHANGE THE DEPARTURE DATE AFTER THE TICKETS HAVE BEEN PURCHASED?

Unfortunately, the answer is No, but with the 1-day walk it may be possible. Please report 15 days before this tour.

DO I NEED MY ORIGINAL PASSPORT?

Yes! You must bring your original passport and it is very important that it be the same passport number you sent us to book your trip, other tickets and reservations.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?

Normally if the weather does not affect the route of the tour the hours of the itinerary are respected, but if something unpredictable happens and it is difficult to foresee. We recommend dressing in layers as it is easier to adapt to different climates.

EVIL OF HEIGHT?

In general, if you exercise regularly and spend a couple of days in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley, you can acclimatize normally. It usually takes between 24 hours to 2 days.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE THERE BY GROUP?

The maximum size of the group is 8 people. Our groups are between 2-8 people. Amarutrek Expeditions, specializes in SMALL, PRIVATE groups and provides a personalized service.

IS THE LAKE OF HUMANTAY 1 DAYS DIFFICULT, I NEED TO TRAIN?

The road is of moderate difficulty. The basic physical condition is naturally important for the walk, and obviously, the more fit you are, the more you will enjoy the trail and the more chances you will have to admire the landscape and appreciate the Inca ruins found along the way. If you do not exercise regularly, it is advisable to take walks, walks or some type of aerobic activity during the months prior to your trip. This hike is moderate to difficult.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN NOT FINISH

Absolutely!! Included in the package and on the last day, we will leave it at your hotel! If you have booked your hotel in the Sacred Valley as Ollantaytambo or Urubamba, we will also leave it there.

If you are satisfied with the services provided, a tip is appreciated, although it is not mandatory. While it may not be usual for you, it is of great importance to the people who will take care of you during the walk. It inspires them to provide excellent service and it is a characteristic

ADITIONAL INFORMATION

SUNBURN

Do not forget that the sun is much stronger in tropical latitudes. It is easy to be burnt by the sun even when it is cloudy. Take extra precautions to avoid being burnt by the sun: wear a hat and wear sunscreen. Try not to spend too much time in direct sunlight, especially between 11:00 and 14:00. Be especially careful especially when going on boat trips as the wind and the sun’s reflection of the water will increase the risk of the sunburn. Drink a lot of water.

STOMACHAL DISCOMFORT

The symptoms are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The best precaution against this is to avoid raw vegetables, salads and tap water. Eat only fruit that requires peeling. Make sure all your food and drinks are properly prepared, so give the taste. Despite the precautions, many visits are affected by an upset stomach. If you are affected, keep calm and good spirits and drink plenty of fluids. Oral rehydration solutions (ORS) are available from pharmacists and can help (you) replenish lost fluids. If you are affected for more than three days and / or you have a fever, you should visit a doctor

BAD HEIGHT

Some people experience discomfort at this altitude, if the problem is extended to severe. We recommend at least one day of rest before any physical activity. The symptoms are headaches, dizziness, upset stomach and fatigue. These symptoms can be taken avoiding the consumption of alcohol, drinking a lot of liquid, eating light meals and getting a lot of rest.
